Title: CHILD WELFARE CASEWORKER II - SCREENER

Immediate Supervisor: Intake Supervisor

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under direction, screen incoming referrals of child abuse and/or neglect, interview callers, prioritize referrals and refer to other caseworkers for investigation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree in social work or related field required with LSW/LISW or eligibility for licensure by the State of Ohio preferred; valid Ohio driver’s license (employees who are required to transport children must present and maintain an acceptable driving record as defined by Agency policy). This position will be required to maintain residency within the range of the radio actuated pager system utilized by the Agency, and within one hour on-site response time of all points of Wayne County. Relocation, if necessary, must take place by the end of the probationary period.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of department policies and procedures*; social work principles and methodology; child development; counseling; dynamics of alcoholism and drug abuse; child welfare casework methods and techniques; mental disorders; legal requirements related to child placement; available community resources; interviewing; office practices and procedures. CORE Basic Training provided by the State of Ohio must be completed by the end of the probationary period. Ability to identify indicators of abuse, neglect and family dysfunction and their subsequent treatment approaches; assess child risk levels; define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; communicate effectively in oral and written form; prepare meaningful, accurate and concise reports; handle sensitive inquires from and contacts with clients; establish a good rapport with clients; maintain a good relationship with supervisors and co-workers. Skills in basic computer literacy, including keyboard and word processing. Must own, lease, or have immediate access to safe and reliable (per State Highway Patrol standards) personal transportation to use for work related responsibilities, including the transportation of children and/or adults

DUTIES: 

 

     INTAKE

bullet Interview callers and walk-ins reporting potential cases of child abuse and/or neglect
bullet Assess risk to children and prioritize case; set timelines
bullet Respond to questions and make referrals to community resources
bullet Call collateral sources to obtain information
bullet Check background on CRIS-E and FACSIS
bullet Assign cases to Child Welfare Caseworker II/Investigator with supervisor
bullet After hours on-call in rotation with other caseworkers

 

     ADMINISTRATIVE

bullet Complete initial case documents
bullet Prepare monthly reports
bullet Write or dictate reports
bullet Maintain equipment logs
bullet Work with staff attorney, attend hearings, and provide testimony
bullet Participate in training opportunities

 

     NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Other related duties as assigned, including but not limited:

bulletAssist in maintaining and tracking agency cameras and portable phones
bulletMiscellaneous office duties
bulletMaintain information regarding community resources
